Our greenhouse is brimming with vibrant annuals, hardy perennials, lush hanging baskets, vegetable starts, herbs, and unique planters. Whether you're refreshing your garden beds or looking for specialty plants, we’ve got you covered all summer long!
The Norwood Gardens facility spans over 10,000 sq.ft., with our greenhouses taking up over 7,000 sq.ft.
We burn wood in our two outdoor boilers. This is considered a renewable energy which is better for our environment. For cooling some of our greenhouses have large exhaust fans and the other greenhouses have sides that roll up.
Commercial greenhouses are extremely sturdy and covered with two layers of plastic. An inflator pumps air between the two layers to tighten the plastic, making it more secure in the wind. This air space between the two layers also helps insulate the greenhouses.
- Annuals die off after one season, while perennials live for multiple years.
- Annuals tend to have a longer flowering period than perennials.
- Annuals require more labor due to annual replanting, while perennials offer a more low-maintenance option once established.
- Perennials are often more expensive upfront but can save money in the long run by not requiring annual replanting.
Most annuals are frost-sensitive, so it’s safest to plant them after the last frost, typically late May to early June, depending on location and micro climate.
Common choices include:
- Petunias
- Marigolds
- Impatiens
- Geraniums
- Begonias
- Zinnias
- Snapdragons
- Alyssum
These are chosen for their vibrant color, ease of growth, and good performance in local conditions.
It depends on the variety:
- Full Sun (6+ hrs): Petunias, zinnias, marigolds, geraniums
- Partial Shade: Impatiens, begonias, lobelia
Always check the plant tag or ask greenhouse staff for guidance.
- Water once a day in hot weather (especially container plants)
- Make sure pots have good drainage
- In cooler or rainy spells, water less frequently
TIP: Stick your finger into the soil — if it feels dry past the first inch, it’s time to water.
Yes! For best blooms:
- Use a balanced liquid fertilizer (e.g., 20-20-20) every 1–2 weeks
- For hanging baskets or containers, consider slow-release pellets
- Deadhead spent flowers to encourage new blooms
- Fertilize regularly
- Water consistently
- Prune leggy plants if needed to promote bushier growth
Absolutely! Just be sure to choose compact or trailing varieties and use quality potting mix. Many annuals are perfect for:
- Hanging baskets
- Deck pots
- Window boxes
- Many annuals sold at greenhouses are hybrids, so their seeds may not “come true” (they won’t look like the parent plant)
- You can try collecting seeds from open-pollinated or heirloom varieties
No. Annuals die off in the fall or after a hard frost so you will need to buy or plant them again each spring.
Yes! We offer a wide variety of vegetable starts—like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers—and culinary herbs such as basil, mint, and rosemary. Perfect for backyard gardens or patio containers, our selection helps you enjoy fresh, homegrown produce all summer.
The best planting time generally is late spring to early summer Herbs can be planted year-round, especially in containers or indoors.
Remove existing grass or plants, amend the soil with compost, and ensure good drainage.
Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Deep watering is better than shallow, frequent watering.
Use a balanced fertilizer, following package instructions, or consider organic options like compost or compost tea.
Leafy greens like lettuce, radishes, and peas are good starters. In summer, zucchini and basil can be prolific.
Remove weeds before planting, mulch to suppress growth, and weed regularly as needed.
Absolutely! Our hanging baskets and patio planters come pre-planted with colorful annuals and trailing blooms—ready to brighten your porch, patio, or balcony. We also offer custom designs if you have a specific color palette or plant preference in mind.
Check the top inch of soil. If it feels dry, water it. Hanging baskets can dry out quickly, especially in hot, windy conditions, so they may need daily watering.
- Consider the amount of sunlight your hanging basket will receive. Choose plants that thrive in full sun, partial shade, or shade.
- Select plants that will drape gracefully over the sides of the basket, creating a beautiful cascading effect.
- Ensure that the chosen plants have similar water and sunlight needs to avoid overcrowding and poor growth.
Use a high-quality, well-draining potting mix specifically designed for container gardening. Avoid garden soil, as it compacts and doesn't drain well.

Most hanging baskets and planters thrive in full sun but some may prefer shade. We can make recommendations based on the type of basket chosen.
- Regularly remove spent flowers (deadheading) to encourage continued blooming.
- Trim back any overgrown or leggy plants to maintain a balanced shape and promote new growth.
Yes! We stock a variety of hardy shrubs and trees suited to local growing conditions, including flowering shrubs, evergreens, and ornamental trees. Our team can help you select the right plants to enhance privacy, add structure, or bring seasonal color to your outdoor space.
Fall and spring are generally ideal, but soil temperature and water availability are crucial.
Plant at the same depth as the root ball to prevent root rot.
Young trees and shrubs require regular watering, especially in the first few years.
Yes, mulch helps retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
Avoid damaging the root ball, and gently loosen the roots if they are tightly bound.
This is the substrate in which plants grow, providing root support and nutrients.
Examples include potting soil, coco coir, and peat moss.
- Mulch helps retain soil moisture by minimizing evaporation, thus reducing the need for frequent watering.
- Mulch insulates the soil, moderating temperature fluctuations and protecting roots from extreme heat or cold.
- Mulch creates a barrier that prevents weed seeds from germinating, reducing competition for resources.
- As organic mulch decomposes, it releases nutrients and organic matter, enhancing soil fertility and structure.
- Organic Mulch: Made from natural materials like wood chips, bark, straw, and compost.
- Inorganic Mulch: Made from non-organic materials like gravel, rocks, and plastic.
We sure do! We carry a full range of premium soils, compost, mulch, and organic or conventional fertilizers to help your plants thrive. Whether you need potting mix for containers, mulch for garden beds, or fertilizer for your veggies, we’ve got the right products for healthy, happy plants.
- A soil test can reveal the nutrient deficiencies in your soil, guiding you in choosing the appropriate fertilizer.
- Different plants have different nutrient requirements. Research the specific needs of your plants to select an appropriate fertilizer.
- Fertilizer labels often display a three-number ratio (N-P-K) indicating the amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
- Most plants benefit from regular fertilization, particularly during their active growing season. Follow the instructions on the fertilizer product for specific application rates and timing.
- Use soil tests to monitor nutrient levels and adjust your fertilization schedule accordingly.
Excessive fertilizer can damage plant roots and foliage, leading to stunted growth or death.
Growing media and mulch should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated area to prevent mold and mildew growth,
